I recently installed a new b3v 9242. Because it is dual tuner I had to do some rg6 rewiring in the house to account for the fact the receiver could handle 2 inputs and 2 outputs. I moved an older receiver into another room and it seemed to work fine. However certain channels were not showing up. I did a switch check and it showed that the odd transponders on 91 were not available. even 91 and odd and even 82 were fine. I went to the 9242 and checked it's switches and everything was working fine, good signal strength on all transponders. This got me to believe that the connection between the LNBs and the SW44 were good.

If I watched the signal strength on the trouble receiver, watching the odd transponders on 91 I would get 0% signal strength, however all of a sudden it would go up to 47% -48% and stay there for a bit and then back down to 0%. 48% was still 40% lower then my other receivers so there had to be a problem. I replaced the RG6 cable between the sw44 and the trouble receiver and all was fixed. So obviously it was a bad cable.

My question is, if it was a bad cable, why would it only effect the odd transponders on 91? How does the signal transfer from the SW44 to the receiver?

Thanks for the help.

Check the LNB type and make sure it's not on OCS-DP on that satellite because you will be missing the ODD TP's unless you do have a DP LNB then it will work without the ODD TP's

No it was setup correctly, because once I changed the rg6 cable from the switch to the receiver everything worked fine. So it was obviously a bad cable. But how could a bad cable cause me not to get the ODD TPs on 91 but get everything else? I can understand that a break in the cable or fault cable would cause signal loss, but why only the ODD 91 TP's.

I am confused

Thanks as always

Is the switch powered by the sub receiver?
Did you try the outlet with another receiver to see if it is the switch?
This is weird that the ODD TP's are not working you can try to turn ON 22KHz and see if the power to the switch will work then.
We will figure it out so bear with me.

Did you read this ? ..... To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

It tells you which ports need to be powered.

The RG6 cable was corroded or broken enough to prevent the lower
voltage for the LNB to go thru. However, the higher voltage could push
thru that cable. Don't take much when cables are frayed or partially
broken. As it was the signal strength wasn't stable.

Thanks priestmill, that makes sense. I figured it was because the signal for those TPs weren't getting through, but I didn't understand how it worked. The no good cable was old and although the ends looked good, it was likely corroded or broken somewhere in the middle. A new cable, and I was back in business.

And also yes Carp it was a sub receiver that was having the problem.

Thanks for the help guys, as always
